Coweeta Heritage Center/Talking Rock Farm is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Coweeta is located in a beautiful and diverse temperate rain forest. It feels very remote here yet we are just 12 miles from Franklin, NC. Winters can be mild. Coweeta is blessed with springs and a stream, pristine forests, and abundant wildlife. Power is provided by a hydro-electric system which is not connected to the grid. An organic garden and trout pond provide healthy food that is also shared with the local community. Hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor activities are just out the back door. Coweeta is looking for others who would like to join together to form an Intentional Community embracing the principles of Voluntary Simplicity. Simply put (no pun intended): We wish “to live simply so that others may simply live.” It is a recognition that nature provides us with valuable services and resources that we can use to enrich our lives. Utilizing local resources, appropriate technology, and working cooperatively, we can discover creative ways to meet our needs as “directly and simply as possible.”. An example of this, in the tradition of many Indigenous People”, is to gather, and use wildcrafted foods as part of our diet. There is great joy in going to nature’s grocery for our sustenance. Voluntary Simplicity is based on the recognition that “very little is needed to live well” and that “abundance is a state of mind.” Living lower on the economic ladder allows us more time and freedom to pursue other life goals: community and social engagement, family time, artistic or intellectual projects, more fulfilling employment, political participation, sustainable living, spiritual exploration, and more. According to the Voluntary Collective, “The grounding assumption of Voluntary Simplicity is that all human beings have the potential to live meaningful, free, happy and infinitely diverse lives while consuming no more than an equitable share of (the world’s) resource

6026 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA. A 2 bedroom, 2 bath 1100 square foot townhouse in the New Brighton Cohousing Community. The townhouse is two stories with a full bathroom on each floor and both bedrooms upstairs. The townhouse for sale is a beautiful end unit with a lot of natural light and a large private backyard. New Brighton Cohousing is a small 11 unit cohousing community, an easy walk to New Brighton State Beach.The central location of this community provides easy access to Highway 1 as well as close proximity to Cabrillo College and local amenities. Cohousing Values and Participation: We formed a multigenerational community, with like-minded owners who participate in governance and events that foster community and a sense of belonging. We have a community organic garden, courtyard, and play area for kids. Our common house has a deck overlooking the courtyard where we have meals, weather permitting, otherwise eating in the community dining room. Our common house has two guest bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining room/kitchen, living room/den, and kid’s playroom. We have a garage for bicycles and shared tools. Our community is designed, owned and managed by the community. We rehabilitated our buildings and designed our community at our inception in 2007, but continue to evolve. We meet every other month for a business meeting where we make decisions about policies, repairs, budgets, etc. On the alternate months, we meet for community connection meetings where we learn and develop skills for communication, conflict resolution, values discussions, or just have fun together. Everyone works on a committee (finance, maintenance or facilitation) and these committees work for the community. We also belong to an “affinity group” – garden, landscape or common house. The neighborhood incudes 23 acres of greenbelt where a stream flows during fall and winter. The common areas include a common house, play structures, a greenhouse, and community garden. Each month, this Cohousing Association of the US event begins with a 30 minute cohousing 101 presentation which you can view on youtube here. We then break into small groups based on topics and regions so you have a chance to connect with fellow dreamers and ask questions of cohousing experts. Small groups are different each time, which is why it’s fun to come back each month! We even offer repeat attendees the option to skip the presentation and go straight into breakouts. My first communal living experience was in 1972. Since then there have been many group housing situations. Now as a partly-retired grandmother, I no longer wish to live alone. I want to share in a positive way my abilities & skills. I don’t have a great deal of money but do have many talents to bring to a community. I’m a clean, sober, reliable hardworking woman. I cooked professionally, worked as an office manager, records specialist, and facilities manager. I am secular, open-minded and self-motivated. I’m partial to the Northwest (SF-Seattle). I have resources but want to add to my/our support by working. I can’t afford an expensive co-housing unit but I make living spaces better than it was before my arrival. Please help a gal find a home.
