We are a community of 3 friends who love communal living because sharing makes life easier, better, and more fun. We share food, space, and chores/maintenance, and we create systems where time, money and energy are all valued. We prioritize direct, transparent communication, and we build systems to be flexible and based on community members’ needs. We reject the capitalist, individualist model for living and care for each other in many tangible and intangible ways (we pick each other up on the side of the road when someone gets a flat on their bike!) We have a simple shared equity model that offers access to building equity even if you’re not the “technical” homeowner. We are an eco-conscious household, and practice sustainability through composting, limiting single-use plastics, and bringing our reusable jars to the co-op to buy in bulk! There are often friends around, and we host fun gatherings (think live-band karaoke, game nights, summer-camp-style mini-games, craft nights, reading parties…) that are usually over by 11:00 and don’t have much alcohol. We like to think of ourselves as more “potluck people” than “party people.” Our work and play involves music, therapy, historic preservation, parks, art, summer camp, queer/trans rights, and bicycling. We are searching for someone to join our community who is something like this… Has communal living experience (with great references) More long term intentions are ideal but we’re open to short term Delights in living in a community that hosts potlucks/gatherings/singing/game nights/having people around Enjoys sharing food Basic knowledge/interest in maintaining an old West Philly house (we value brain and brawn equally!) Can share responsibility for home ownership (time, money, energy) Has spent time unlearning the oppressive teachings of our racist, sexist, cisheteronormative world We are interested in getting to know a potential housemate for at least 6 months, and we are looking for someone who would value that intentional getting-to-know-us time too. Open to couples. The house is a 3-story Victorian in West Philly on a residential street. There is a sweet shared backyard with garden boxes and space for gatherings. We use our finished basement for music rehearsals and seeing therapy clients and we have dreams of finishing the attic.
If we share the load, we all have more time, money, energy, and fun.
