Come spend your winters in sunny Chile

When it’s winter in the Northern Hemisphere, Southern Chile enjoys long days, reliably clear blue skies, dry heat in the afternoon followed by cool nights. The mild, rainy winters support a variety of ornamental plants and bring abundant greenery, though grass turns yellow mid-summer if not watered. There’s undeveloped land that overlooks lakes with mountains in the background, and there’s isolated farms set in rolling hills with a volcano in the background. The ocean is at most a few hours away. Mosquitoes are rare and do not carry diseases, and the only venomous spider of concern only bites in self-defense. Some drawbacks of Chile are visa and residency complexities, the risk of burglary when properties are left vacant, unreliable contractors, dogs barking all the time, and remoteness. This community aims to provide a “home away from home” and a social life in rural Chile, through everyday group activities such as sports, music, card games, arts and crafts, meditation, learning, in addition to sharing responsibilities of decision-making, maintenance, gardening. No strong desire to be off-grid or self-sufficient. No plans for an income-generating activity. Location: to be determined, probably somewhere between Puerto Montt and Chillan. Of particular interest are Termas de Chillán (mountain town/ski resort), Pucón area (well-developed, but too congested?), Pingueral (seaside gated community), any of the lakes in Los Lagos or Los Rios regions, countryside east of Temuco.
