About the event

With many personalities and needs in community, sometimes tensions can’t be avoided. Luckily, sociocratic methods can help us catch these tensions early as well as put systems in place so tensions don’t escalate.

Join us for this 1-hour webinar to learn how Sociocracy can help your community work through conflict as well as get a taste for our upcoming 5-week course, Sociocracy for Communities.

In this webinar, you’ll learn about 5 key points from Sociocracy:

  • clarity on who decides what
  • good-decision making
  • listening in meetings
  • conflict engagement policy and processes
  • how to keep everyone informed

About your presenter

Ted Rau

Ted is part of Sociocracy For All (SoFa), an international organization he co-founded with his colleague Jerry Koch-Gonzalez in 2016. SoFa is now a growing, international movement service organization that provides resources, training and networking for sociocracy practitioners. Ted co-authored the sociocracy handbook, Many Voices One Song and has taught sociocracy workshops in several countries including the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Italy. Ted is transgender, and his experience of seeing gender dynamics from both sides has influenced his thinking and perception. Ted has 5 children and has been a resident of Pioneer Valley Cohousing in Massachusetts since 2012.

Jerry Koch-Gonzalez

Jerry helps companies and organizations implement sociocracy to create adaptive and effective organizations where all members’ voices matter. He is a consultant and certified trainer in both Dynamic Governance/Sociocracy and Compassionate Communication (NVC).

He has been a Board member of the Institute for Community Economics, United for a Fair Economy and Class Action, and a trainer with Movement for a New Society, the National Coalition Building Institute, DiversityWorks, Cambridge Youth Peace & Justice Corps, Lesley College Center for Peaceable Schools, Boston College Center for Social Justice, the Association for Resident Controlled Housing, and Spirit in Action.

Jerry is a founding and current resident of Pioneer Valley Cohousing, a 21-year old community in Amherst MA that has been successfully using sociocracy (aka Dynamic Governance) for the last 6 years.

Loved by Community Builders

What a beautiful gift to our intentional community builders and leaders! FIC’s programs provide a way for thinking and concerned people to collaborate for solutions to our multitude of global crises. Thank you FIC! – Terri Garcia

I am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views. Well done and thank you FIC. – Claire Ogden
