This 2-hour workshop provides practical tools and methodologies for building sustainable, regenerative communities through a more-than-human lens. This systemic multispecies perspective recognizes that communities exist within living ecosystems made up of soils, waters, plants, animals, and people.
Many intentional communities share a commitment to sustainability. But turning those values into real systems that support daily life — for both people and the surrounding ecosystem — can be complex.
This workshop explores sustainability through a more-than-human lens, recognizing that communities exist within living ecosystems made up of soils, waters, plants, animals, and people. These forms of life are not just resources for human use, they are living participants in the places we inhabit.
Together, we’ll explore how ecological relationships, local knowledge, and place-based awareness can guide the design of resilient community systems. Participants will learn practical tools and methodologies for understanding their landscape and developing regenerative practices that support the whole ecosystem.
In this session, you’ll learn about:
Olea is an environmental anthropologist with a PhD in Environmental Sciences from Central European University. Her work explored how intentional communities develop practical approaches to sustainability and regeneration. Her doctoral research focused on ecovillages in Mexico, examining how communities implement sustainability principles in lived practice. Alongside academic research, she has participated in regenerative agriculture projects and sustainable community initiatives in Europe and Latin America, combining ethnographic research with hands-on experience in place-based sustainability.
