About the Community

What we do

What is Entelechy? The definition of ‘Entelechy’ means “the realization of potential”. This definition, therefore, also implies that there is a unique potential inherent within each living being, and each living system. As the Oak Tree is the Entelechy of the Acorn, or the Butterfly is the Entelechy of a Caterpillar, this community exists due to the belief that human society is also capable of realizing its Entelechy. To us, humanity reaching a stage of maturity and realizing their inherent potential means living in balance and symbiosis with all other forms of life, while being conscientious and loving stewards of this planet Earth and as guardians of her various ecosystems. This community was named as such to help us each ask the question: How do we realize our individual, and collective Entelechy? About Our Community We are a small, ecologically-minded community on Salt Spring Island composing of over 18 long-term residents, plus work-stay friends and other guests. Our community intends to be a sanctuary and place of learning, where we practice and cultivate a genuine care for the natural world, it’s human and non-human residents, and the local ecology. This includes inviting a spirit of reciprocity, and a practice of how to realize our deepest held values so that they show up in the words and actions of daily life.
