FIC at the GEN Europe Gathering 2023

By Daniel Greenberg, FIC Co-Director

Radical Self-Love, Eldership in Community, Solidarity Economy, Regenerative Lifestyles, Sociocracy, Embodied Climate Dialogue, Net Zero Power, Indigenous Insights, Birthing the New Humanity….

Interested?

These were just a few of the workshop topics presented at the recent GEN Europe Gathering that took place at the Nature Community in southern Germany from July 12-17.

And workshops were only a small part of the gathering! There was also an amazing “Meet the Ecovillages Marketplace”, with over 50 communities and networks represented, a Cacao Ceremony, Ecstatic and “Non Linear” Dance, Improv Theater, Film Screenings, Singing Circles, Live Concerts, a Technology Expo, Emergent (Open Space) Programs, Sharing Groups, an Emotional Support Tent, a 3-day communities council prior to the event, and even something called Schmetterlingsbewegung (fortunately with English Translation ).

Over 800 participants from all over Europe (and around the world) attended this sold-out annual event, with over half coming for the first time!

Having been involved with the Global Ecovillage Network for decades (even serving as President from 2015-2019), I’ve had the privilege of attending GEN Europe gatherings for years, even MCing in 2018 at the Lilleoru community in Estonia.

This year, I proudly wore my new FIC Co-Director hat.

I was thrilled by all of the support and opportunities to collaborate for a more vibrant and engaged network of intentional communities here in North America! I’m looking forward to working closely with GEN Europe, GEN North America, GEN US, and the Ecovillage Network of Canada to further our common mission of connecting and empowering all those venturing to join, grow, and learn from intentional and sustainable communities.

Imagine a North American Communities Council with representatives meeting at regional, national, and even international gatherings. Imagine collaborating with aligned organizations and communitarians in North America, Europe, and around the world.

Imagine expanded networks, resources, courses, and events to bring more community for millions.

Let’s work together to create a vibrant, grassroots network of communities striving for a more just, resilient, and cooperative world!

As John Lennon said, “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

In community,

Daniel Greenberg

FIC Co-Director
